The Parish Council is concerned about litter in and around our village. We have all seen discarded MacDonalds bags, seagull attacks on bin days, plastic blown into hedges etc.
To address this problem Cllr Jason Burley came up with the idea of engaging the children of the village to help. Jason on behalf of the Parish Council asked the school if they would engage the children in a competition to design a poster that the Parish Council could use to encourage us all to pick up litter and discourage the few litter louts who discard litter thoughtlessly.
All the pupils at Stithians School were invited to enter a ‘Keep our Village Clean’ Competition. The competition was announced in assembly and all ages were given the opportunity to enter. The competition was a homework style exercise and was entered by children in reception class – so 4/5 year olds up to Year 6 – 10/11 year olds. All 26 entries were given to the Parish Council to judge. The two winning entries were Brodie B In year 6 and Jazi D from year 4. Well done to all those children who entered. Thinking about keeping the village clean and rubbish free is a step away from it being a reality.
