PARISH PLAN
Report on the meeting held at the Stithians Centre
on Oct 8th concerning the possible setting up of a
Steering Committee to oversee the production of a Stithians
Community Plan.
The meeting was attended by Tracey Edwards of the
Cornwall Rural Community Council. For the benefit of members of the
public who had expressed a possible interest, she went over the same
ground previously covered in her talk to the PC. She then
participated in Q&A session with those present. Following this, she
left, with an undertaking to give another introduction should it be
necessary, as some who had expressed an interest were unable to
attend on the night.
I then tried to divide those present into those
who wished to join the Steering Group and those who might be willing
to act as helpers, should the need arise, for such tasks as
questionnaire distribution and collection etc. The results were:-
PC Representatives:
Roger Nicholls, Ted Vincent, myself.
Steering Group Volunteers:
Joy Thomas, Clive Bowden, Sue Martin, Graham
Martin
Possible Helpers:
Vilma Vincent, Anthea Colgate, Rita Wood, Colin
Trebilcock, Sarah? (from shop), Cath Cullen.
It seemed to me that some were discouraged at the
thought of the workload, and I was disappointed that none of the
four Steering Group volunteers represented a village organisation. A
figure of 12 was mentioned by Tracey as a suitable number to
constitute a Steering Committee. She had pointed out that some
villages had decided not to make a plan, and that there was also the
possibility of making a joint plan with a neighbouring parish, or
delaying it until more propitious time. I am left with the distinct
impression that there is not a grass roots burning desire amongst
residents for a plan, despite the considerable advertising in
Spotlight, Stithians Times, and elsewhere. Cath Cullen made the
possibly relevant point that Stithians, with a new Hall and fair
playing field and sporting facilities, is well served compared to
some parishes, which may make residents feel complacent.
Members will no doubt wish to discuss the
foregoing at the meeting.
